I started crocheting while in chemotherapy, and it did wonders for my stability. I don't even know how to crochet... I just did what I felt like doing, mostly shawl- adjacent designs, with wool in pleasing colours and haptic, and crocheted away... it was clearly about the process, not the product, and I still love every mishap piece I finished... and, yes, there's bliss to be had. Thank you for the lovely original fotos, Kathryn!
I love your story of crocheting during chemotherapy and the way the process grounded you. I love that you followed this urge and didn't worry about doing it "right." The wonder of seeing what a single thread can do grounds me too.
The boots on the toad! The hat on the bird! I love them all 🤩
Identifying bird sounds and seed sprouts - these feel like Creation and I in communication with each other. I always feel more joyful after these interactions.
Thank you. I love this idea of you in conversation with creation through your sprouts and attention to bird sounds. I love all that you share from your garden this time of year!
I love your crochet creations! Do you sell the frogs? Those are so cute and their mushrooms! I like to collage to help me unwind, get into the flow state, and process difficult and positive emotions/thoughts! And I like to gift them to my loved ones as well!
Thank you, collage is another favorite of mine - I find it to be one of the easiest materials to get started with because the bits and pieces immediately begin a conversation.
I love your crochet animals, and I’m especially taken with the idea of your family members driving around with a few of them as companions in their cars. That’s delightful.
I often experience that craving to make something with my hands as an adjunct to writing. For most of my life playing the piano filled the bill nicely. It’s not as convenient as crochet or knitting, and I really like the idea of having hand work I could carry with me from room to room.
A lot of my crocheting happens in transitions - car rides, at the airport, in times of waiting. It does work well that it moves easily room to room. Maybe that's part of what inspired me to give everyone traveling companions for their cards - so many creations were made while traveling, it just seemed a good fit!
Medicine! Yes to this medicine! I just picked back up my crochet practice. Last I did something was during 2020 and the Pandemic. It’s long overdue to let myself savor the practice. I usually give away the blankets I make. I think I have settled on giving this current crochet blanket to my brother for his birthday in June. He is very ill with RA and I pray he will feel my love and care in this latest expression. Thankyou Kathryn for this lovely message. 🌷🌀

I'm so glad to hear you are crocheting too and this blanket will be a lovely gift - he can literally wrap himself in an expression of your love!
Your crocheting is amazing!
Thank you!
You are so talented!!
Thanks, it's a lot of practice but each thing I make feels like a new lesson along the way. Following patterns is both discovery and creating.
