I took at advantage of the cold last week to observe the wonder of ice crystals on frozen bubbles.
The sunrise provided ideal light and the birds offered a great soundtrack for the video below.
This resource from the Ontario Science Center provided the recipe for the bubble solution.
There is something about winter in general and, especially about snow and freezing temperatures that pulls me outside. Walking by the Potomac River last Friday, I came upon another lone walker who greeted me saying, “You couldn’t stay in either, could you?!” The smile on her face reflected the joy I felt in the wonder and quiet of my walk in the snow.
Ice to me is one of nature’s best art forms. The chance to happen upon it in just the right light only increaseses the wonder and beauty.
A few more ice and light images from my winter wanderings over the years…
I’d love to hear from you, too, where are you finding wonder in this season?
Thank you for reading and being a part of creative community through this newsletter.

Magical photos Kathryn! I find wonder in sunsets lately, and watching the snow melt here too was pretty wondrous, the white all over then saw it disappear!
beautiful, I love the sparkle of ice as the sun reflects its twinkling beauty. There's an impermanence so it feels as though you may be the only one to capture it in that moment. Thank you for reminding us!
