Earth Day, Arbor Day, Every Day
We often think creative practice happens in specialized studio spaces; it is exhibited in galleries, curated for viewers and visitors.
In fact, creative practice can happen anywhere, made by anyone.
This time at home presents an invitation to think about creative practices in and around our homes. This week I transformed images I had hoped to exhibit at Huntley Meadows into an art installation for my front yard.
I'd love to hear what you are creating and sharing too.
Email me.
How will you celebrate?
Earth Day, Arbor Day, Every Day
It feels like such a treat to have two celebrations of the natural world in one week.
I wanted to take this opportunity to send pictures of some of the beautiful nature-inspired art I am receiving.
Thanks everyone for your responses and stories.
Please continue to share with me via email.
The first collage comes from Anna Finch, exploring the seasonal changes of colors of Mount Hood in Oregon.
The second collage is a color wheel created with mulberry paper by Carolyn Carmack.
Thanks to Barb Eyre and Karin Rindal for the above images.
Barb made the color wheel for Palm Sunday.
Karin combined drawing and collage to create the pansy for a card she created. The stamp came from a letter from a 92 year old in Germany and the collage then became part of the card she mailed in return.
This is a wonderful time to think about ways we can share art through the mail.
In this time of staying close to home, as we are unable to travel, I've enjoyed seeing these images Carolyn Carmack has created from travel photos. The first is a puffin from Machias Seal Island off the coast of Maine. The second is a lake in Scotland. Carolyn was a participant in my collage and photo transfer classes at Huntley Meadows Park and it's been lovely to see her continue with this process with photos at home.
I first became connected with the vibrant community at Huntley Meadows Park through Jenna Fournel and her nature-inspired exhibits at the Visitor's Center. Here are some of Jenna's beautiful watercolor illustrations that continue to inspire me.

Above is a collection of the printed flags now on view in my yard. See more about the process of creating the silk screens on my instagram @kathrynconeway
Thank you for reading and for the many notes and images you send. I am SO grateful for the opportunity to share with this creative community.
